The number of pallets a vehicle holds depends on how they are turned as well as on the floor area. This calculator tries straight, turned and mixed patterns — for example 34 Euro pallets in a 13.6 m trailer and 25 in a 40-foot container — and draws the result.
If pallets can be stacked, layers are calculated from the inner height; enter a usable height if a door or stacking limit applies. When the total weight exceeds the payload, the pallet count is limited by weight.
How to calculate Container pallet load
- Choose the vehicle or container type, or enter custom dimensions.
- Enter a usable inner height if there is a limit.
- Choose the pallet type and enter the loaded pallet height and weight.
- Choose whether pallets can be stacked.
Container pallet load formula
Total pallets = Pallets on the floor × LayersLayers = Inner height ÷ Loaded pallet height, rounded downWeight limit = Payload ÷ Loaded pallet weightLoading metres = Pallet floor area ÷ Vehicle width
Container pallet load example
A 13.6 m trailer takes Euro pallets in two rows of 17 with the short side along the trailer: 34 pallets. At 500 kg each that is 17,000 kg, well under a 24-tonne payload.
Container pallet load: common questions
How many Euro pallets fit in a 40-foot container?
A standard 40' container holds 25 Euro pallets, or by dimensions 22 industrial (120×100) pallets (21 is common in practice), in a single layer. A 20' container holds 11 Euro pallets or 9–10 industrial pallets.
How many pallets fit on a trailer?
A 13.6 m semi-trailer holds up to 34 Euro pallets or 26 industrial pallets in one layer; 33 Euro pallets is the usual load in practice.
What is a loading metre (LDM)?
One metre of trailer length across the full width. A Euro pallet takes about 0.4 LDM and an industrial pallet about 0.5 LDM.
