Offers like “30% off plus an extra 10% at checkout” are common, but stacked discounts multiply rather than add up. This calculator shows the real price you pay and the effective total discount.

It is just as useful for sellers: when planning a promotion, see the net price your customers pay and the revenue you give up per unit.

How to calculate Sale price

  1. Enter the original (list) price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage.
  3. If there is an extra discount on top, add it to the second field.

Sale price formula

  • Sale price = Price × (1 − D₁ ÷ 100) × (1 − D₂ ÷ 100)
  • Savings = Price − Sale price

Sale price example

A $1,500 item at 25% off costs $1,125 — a $375 saving. With an extra 10% off, the final price is $1,012.50 and the effective discount is 32.5%.

Sale price: common questions

Is 30% + 20% off the same as 50% off?

No. Stacked discounts give 1 − (0.70 × 0.80) = 44% off in total.

How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?

(Old price − New price) ÷ Old price × 100. The percentage change line in our Percentage Calculator does this too.

Is sales tax applied before or after the discount?

In most places tax is charged on the discounted price, so a discount also lowers the tax you pay.
