Percentages show up everywhere — discounts, price increases, sales targets, test scores and growth rates. This calculator answers the five most common percentage questions from just two numbers.

Find out “What is 18% of 1,500?”, “45 is what percent of 300?” or “If a price went from 200 to 260, what was the percentage increase?” without remembering any formula.

How to calculate Percentage

  1. Enter the percentage or the first number in field A.
  2. Enter the base number or the second number in field B.
  3. Read the line you need in the results — values update as you type.

Percentage formula

  • A% of B = B × A ÷ 100
  • A as % of B = A ÷ B × 100
  • Percentage change = (B − A) ÷ |A| × 100

Percentage example

With A = 20 and B = 250: 20% of 250 is 50; 20 is 8% of 250; going from 20 to 250 is a 1,150% increase.

Percentage: common questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 800 = 800 × 15 ÷ 100 = 120.

How do I calculate percentage increase?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 200 to 260: (260 − 200) ÷ 200 × 100 = 30%.

Does a 20% increase followed by a 20% decrease cancel out?

No. 100 + 20% = 120, but 120 − 20% = 96, because the second percentage is applied to a larger base.
